Family Residence in Voukolia

The project focuses on the thoughtful modification of a family residence, preserving the character of traditional Kalymnian architecture while introducing a refined contemporary approach to everyday living.

Both externally and internally, the design maintains a strong connection to local materials and craftsmanship, incorporating Kalymnian stone, traditional plaster finishes and simple architectural forms. The aim is to create a home that feels authentic to its setting, while offering the comfort, functionality and clarity of a modern residence.

The ground floor is organised around an open-plan living area that brings together the living room, kitchen and dining space, creating a welcoming and continuous family environment. The main façade opens towards Kantouni and the western horizon, allowing the house to enjoy the changing afternoon light and the sunset. Two bedrooms are positioned towards the rear of the residence, offering privacy and a quieter relationship with the surrounding landscape.

The upper level is dedicated to a spacious master bedroom suite, connected to a large private terrace with panoramic views across Kantouni beach.

The result is a warm and timeless island home, where traditional architecture, natural materials and contemporary living come together in a simple and balanced way.
